BeschreibungPerspectives on AI, Special Project AGI 2024, Basel
In my proposal, I explore the generative potential of a custom model developed in collaboration with the Plakat Sammlung Basel, where we trained a stable diffusion model using approximately 5,000 posters.
The layout consists of 100 AI-generated miniature posters arranged in a 10x10 grid, functioning more as a matrix to help us analyze visual patterns and data. I delved into topics of letterform design, working on the AGI monogram, followed by an exploration of layout generation based on the latent potential of the PSP archive. The final section showcases a series of simplified circular and dotted patterns, generated using the simplest prompts I could devise.
I’m fascinated by these morphed shapes and the often garbled words. The immense power of this technology is clear, yet there is also a noticeable fragility and naivety in its current state.
The poster creation process began with an initial exploration of the tool, followed by a systematic approach to prompting, which generated hundreds of variations. From there, I selected the most compelling results and used InDesign to assemble the entire project.
Throughout the process, I experienced a mix of wonder, excitement, and doubt. It feels like working with a magic tool—a black box from which powerful visuals emerge. I’m certain that this will have a lasting impact on our daily work as graphic designers, extending our creative exploration in new directions.
