«Stringed instruments»

A musical instrument gets its unique sound from its construction, materials, and playing style. Instrument-making is a centuries-old art but is also subject to new trends. Our instrument collection started with the Hug family, who ran a shop selling instruments and recordings (Musik Hug) in Zurich for over 200 years. Some of the instruments shown here have long been “extinct,” meaning they are no longer produced or played. Other instruments, such as the violin, have continually been perfected. Today, a standard violin type has been adopted worldwide.
