«Sophie Taeuber-Arp: King Stag»
During the First World War (1914–1918), many creative people fled to Zurich. Some joined the Dada move- ment and invented a new style of art. They put their ideas about abstract theater into practice at the Cabaret Voltaire. The Swiss Marionette Theater, found- ed in 1918, was the setting for premieres of marionette plays by Sophie Taeuber-Arp and Otto Morach. Taeuber-Arp’s marionettes embody the new style in art: they are made of simple geometric shapes in bright colors and have very flexible joints. The collection includes 350 additional marionettes that captivate viewers with their fanciful variety and expressive design.
