«Posters that attest to a turbulent Zurich»
After 25 years, Hans-Ruedi Breitenmoser stopped printing. His legendary offset printshop in Zurich-Wipkingen had been a focal point for the political and subcultural scene. Insider DJ Punky (Markus Kenner) helped the Poster Collection acquire around 100 posters from the printshop that bring to life the political struggles of the era from 1990 to 2010 and the contemporary venues for alternative culture. The posters advertise concerts in squats and neighborhood festivals while demanding rights for women and lesbians and declaring war on evictions and racist policies. Usually designed anonymously and posted all around town, the posters’ deliberate «anti-design» stems from a colorful mix of photography, typography, and illustration. The messages of these testimonials to years gone by are still relevant today.
