«Das Telefon»

«The Telephone»

Alexander Bell helped the telephone make its breakthrough in 1876. Since then, the telephone and its use have changed considerably: once an unfamiliar technical novelty available only to a few, today phones are an indispensable, ubiquitous, and inexpensive tool. The triumph of the mobile phone soon led to the internet-capable smartphones that today dominate our everyday communications. The smartphone is the symbol par excellence of our digitalized knowledge society. Posters advertising phones have visualized every step in this development. While in early posters the focus was on the telephone as a way of keeping in touch, today it’s all about lifestyle. With the smartphone, anything is possible – instantly and simultaneously. Calling someone on the phone? No longer necessary: the smartphone networks, speaks, informs, and entertains all on its own.
