«A Tribute to Adolphe Mouron Cassandre»
Railway tracks converging at the horizon loom gigantically, as does a ship’s prow seen from a worm’s eye view. The designer Adolphe Mouron Cassandre also used complementary colors and self-designed typefaces to lend his compositions even more dynamism and drama.
Cassandre drew inspiration from the euphoria about the future that was ubiquitous in the period between the wars, giving rise to a fascination with new modes of transport, speed, and machines. His posters are designed with geometric precision, giving them a distinctive architectural look. Despite the expressiveness typical of his images, Cassandre saw himself as a simple conveyor of news, a visual telegraphist.
