DescriptionThe first section of this paper will delve into the necessary background information that is essential to understand the music. This will include an exploration of Robert Ashley’s biography and his influential works, the technique of automatic writing and the composers connection to the Tourette’s syndrome. In the next chapter, the inspiration behind the creation of the piece will be explained, as well as the connection between the philosophy of consciousness and creativity, related to the perspective of Deepak Chopra and Julian Janes. The third part of this paper will provide a detailed analysis of the piece and will propose a newly created score for the piece, based on these analysis. Following this, the next chapter will unravel and analyze the recent interpretations and performances of Automatic Writing by Object collection. Lastly, after intensively working on it, I will offer a personal interpretation of the piece.
