DescriptionThe aim of the authors thesis is to search in the Allegro Exposition of Brahms' quintet op. 115 for all possible motivic relationships that prove the presence, even in this late work, of a process of variation and development analogous to what Schoenberg calls 'developing variation'. First the author provides a definition of the term, and brings to mind fundamental analysis/composition concepts related to it, such as form, motivic variation and development. It follows a detailed and commented motivic analysis for each section of the Exposition.
