DescriptionThe thesis is divided into two main chapters. In the first chapter, the author looks into France from the establishment of absolutism to the composition of the image of Louis XIV (1638-1715). The author discusses the theory of the double body of the King, in which, based on the ecclesial theories of the fabrication of the image of Jesus and on the laws of the English Supreme Court, the French government implants in Louis XIV the perishable carnal body and the victorious and mortal body, which is portrayed in the opera initially by Jean-Baptiste Lully, who is one of the most important and influential French composers. The author later dwells on the political changes with Louis XV and a recap on the history of opera in Italy until it reached France. In the second chapter, the author discusses the haute-contre tenor, the definitions of this typology from different dictionaries, and comparisons with other female and male voices used in opera. He discusses the vocal classification of haute-contre tenors, from the sound qualities of this specific voice and also analyse it musically as well as some hypotheses of the use of it in the center of the opera.
