Description"The goal of this thesis is to examine the use of vibrato on the violin during the
nineteenth century. First, sources from the baroque era will be examined, and then
sources from the late eighteenth century specifically. This is necessary in order to give historical context and create a picture of the techniques, terms, and usage of vibrato that existed up to the start of the nineteenth century. Here an overview will be provided.
Then sources from the nineteenth century, mainly violin treatises from pedagogues of the time, will be examined chronologically and in more depth. Other factors, such as schools and cultural context, will also be taken into consideration. [...]."
