DescriptionIn the centre of the master thesis is Schoenberg's piece "Kol Nidre for Rabbi-Narrator, mixed chorus and orchestra". The author of the thesis wants to show how the concept of duality is reflected in Schoenberg's Kol Nidre, both in macro and micro perspective. For this is hi puts Kol Nidre first in an historical context.

In the second chapter, he presents the origin of the old custom of Kol Nidre. And the third chapter is about Schoenberg's collaboration with rabbi Sonderling, the head of a Reform Jewish congregation in Los Angeles.

In this third chapter, the author also writes about the reception of Kol Nidre and presents the flections of modern scholars on Kol Nidre in its historical and cultural context.

In the final chapter, the author presents analysis approaches of modern scholars, especially of Joshua M. Grayson. The author also presents his own examination of the piece, while the principle that guided his analysis is the theme of duality, which he thinks is present in all layers of this composition.
