«Students of Willy Guhl»

Many designs by Willy Guhl’s former students found their way into people’s daily lives. Whether a mass-produced laundry basket, children’s paint boxes, the best-selling Swiss chair of all time, or an artfully crafted wardrobe, all of them are functional utilitarian objects of high design quality. Moreover, they also fulfill Willy Guhl’s aspiration to develop new types, to use new materials intelligently, and to take into account not only functional but also formal-aesthetic and manufacturing aspects in the design. After designing furniture and interiors, Willy Guhl’s class went on to conceive industrial products starting in 1960. The students would build models to put their ideas up for discussion. Structural and formal aspects as well as an analysis of the intended use were fundamental concerns.
