DescriptionIn his thesis the author asks at the beginning the following questions: Why is there an overall feeling, from classical academics and musicians to the unknowledgeable normal listener, that tuba is an eccentric instrument for goofy guys trying to make the largest sound? Why is there a feeling that tuba players can't make great musicians or are always the butt of jokes? In his paper, the author explores the historical reasoning and analysis for the unspoken prejudices and biases surrounding tuba and brainstorm how it is possible to push past these preconceptions and biases to make the tuba more recognizable and appreciated. For this he explores the history of the instrument itself, he compares it to other laughed-at instruments and looks into its first concerto to explain the technical difficulties of the tuba, his own personal experiences, and the efforts of pioneering tubists who grew the popularity of the instrument .
