Description«Automobilisten aus fremden Ländern waren fasziniert von Matters prächtiger Darstellung der Schweiz – in Wirklichkeit eine raffinierte Fotomontage. Blauer Himmel über dem Weiss des Doldenhorns und dazu die Mäander aus Kopfsteinpflaster der Tremola. 1936 emigrierte Matter nach New York. Er ging sofort zu Harper’s Bazaar, um Aleksej Brodovič zu treffen, und sah hinter ihm «Für schöne Autofahrten die Schweiz» hängen.»

“Matter’s stunning representation of Switzerland fascinated motorists from many foreign countries—it was actually a very refined photomontage. The blue sky over the whiteness of the Doldenhorn and the porphyry paving of the Tremola. In 1936 Matter moved to New York. He went straight to Harper’s Bazaar to meet Aleksej Brodovič, behind whom he saw “Für schöne Autofahrten die Schweiz” hanging on the wall.“
