Description“It is a poet, Mallarmé, in a pen-written manuscript from 1896, who sets out to grant verse a visual form corresponding to its rhythm. A mode of expression and reading that was taken up by the historical avant-gardes—Futurism, Dada, Constructivism—even with opposing ideological premises and modes. Marinetti ’frees’ words by exaggerating onomatopoeia and synesthesia in explosive typograms. For Majakovskji, who unlike the Italian Futurists condemned war, El’ Lisickij ’constructs’ "For the Voice" in 1923, a collection of 13 poems to read aloud.That same year, in Paris, Il’jazd publishes "Lidantiu as a Beacon", a play in verse where he mixes Russian and Zaum—a ’ sound-speech’ language invented with Aleksej Kručenych and Igor’ Terent’ev in 1913, when they left the Futurist group and approached Dada—in a refined operation of expansion of meaning. In the "Gutenberg Yearbook" of 1925, Lisickij states: ’Typographical design should perform optically what the speaker creates through voice and gesture of his thoughts.’
