BeschreibungPerspectives on AI, Special Project AGI 2024, BaselOn the website, there was a text field where you could describe a poster to be generated by Artificial Intelligence. “Trained” with 70,000 posters from the legendary Basler Plakat Sammlung, the AI would interpret your input text and produce completely new posters each time you hit the “generate” button. Each sketch took about 10 to 20 seconds to appear. The results were staggering: some where indeed beautiful, some where awful — and the text was always garbled, incorrect, and almost unreadable. After the initial free-flowing experimentation, the entire Studio Mut team tried to “destroy” this wonderful, maniacal, evil machine. It was an exercise in watching the machine copy, take, and fake. After generating 288 posters, one design emerged where all these tensions came together perfectly: “Fake it til you break it.” And break it we will.
