Every table of course serves more or less the same purpose, but the structural, material and technical solutions are varied and illustrate the design trends of a particular period: In the 1930s, there were collapsible tubular steel tables, in the 1960s low smoking tables, in the 1980s monumental table sculptures and in the 1990s simple tabletops on trestles.
