Works of «Homage to Wolfgang Weingart»
Wolfgang Weingart will celebrate his eightieth birthday in February 2021. The museum, which houses his archive, wishes him all the best. After training as a typesetter in Stuttgart, Weingart sat in on classes taught by with Armin Hofmann and Emil Ruder at the Basel School of Design in 1964 and became a typography teacher himself in 1968. For thirty years he taught further education classes in graphic design and inspired students from all over the world with his experimental design approach. As early as 1984, he integrated the Apple Macintosh computer into his teaching in order to combine old and new technologies. Weingart also owes his international reputation to his own typographic work. By overlapping image and text in his legendary litho film collages, he anticipated a key principle of digital sampling.
