«New Photography»
As representatives of the New Photography, Albert Renger-Patzsch and Hans Finsler reproduced objects as realistically as possible. In Renger-Patzsch’s book «The World is Beautiful» (1928) most of the subjects are shown in close-up detached from their context in an effort to capture their essence, no matter whether they come from nature or technology. Hans Finsler’s motifs are cropped, blurred by movement, or captured in slanting diagonals. As head of the photography class at the Kunstgewerbeschule Zürich (1932–1958), he left an indelible mark on Swiss photographic culture of the time.
