«Arbeitswelten»

«Working worlds»

When we were young, people often asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up. The answers were mostly similar: astronaut, police officer, pilot, doctor, locomotive engineer, teacher, hairdresser. These occupations all still exist, but many others have disappeared or are undergoing transformation. Technological innovations brought about by automation, computerization, robotization, and AI are changing entire industries and causing certain fields of work to disappear. Globalization does the rest, by outsourcing the production processes usually to remote low-wage countries, over the past several decades. Who knows how children in the future will answer the famous question?
