«Kameras und Abspielgeräte»

«Cameras and playback devices»

The Design Collection preserves mechanical and optical equipment used for recording and playing back images. These devices come mainly from the 20th century and were produced or used in Switzerland. Their design reveals the progressive miniaturization and democratization of audio-visual media. Many successful Swiss firms such as Paillard Bolex, Lenco and Revox were however unable to keep pace with the rampant digitalization of image and sound.
